The Illinois Student Government is the officially recognized system of student governance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Our mission is to "advance the collective interest and safeguarding the rights of the students; maintain the quality of life, education, employment, research, and services at the institution; and provide for the awareness and general welfare of the campus and community."
The Illinois Student Government is made up of graduate and undergraduate students elected to represent students at the University. Student Government sponsors initiatives that address pressing issues on campus, from the sexual assault policy to racial tensions on campus. Student Government seeks to play a role in all aspects of University life, from housing and diversity to funding and dining.

Committees and Meeting Times

The Committee on Academic Affairs looks at issues directly related to the quality of education. We review components of academic quality such as education policy, the accessibility and continuation of academic resources, the implementation of student input on academic issues, and diversity within our education. Overall, the committee seeks to examine the support and maintenance of academic quality throughout all aspects of campus life.
This Committee on Campus Affairs deals with issues directly related to the campus of the University. The Committee of Campus Affairs supervises policies, issues, and concerns that affect the whole campus. The Committee on Campus Affairs works on creating policies that will improve the well being of students on campus. Our committee seeks to create a campus environment that is best for the University and entire community through proper legislation.
Community and Governmental Affairs
The Committee on Community and Governmental Relations serves to connect the student body with the wider Champaign-Urbana community while facilitating interactions and partnerships with local, state, and federal government, as well as foster communication between the student body, University, community, and Illinois Student Government.
Diversity and Inclusion

The Committee on Diversity and Inclusion strives to make campus inclusive and safe for everyone. We focus on making sure the school community and learning environment is inclusive to students of all minority statuses, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, ability status, gender, socioeconomic class, and veteran status. We work and collaborate with the cultural centers and various offices on campus, including the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
The Committee on Financial Affairs assists the ISG Treasurer in deliberating ways to effectively and responsibly spend the ISG's money. The committee also assists in reviewing all fiscal year budgeting as well as all acts of the government that include financial allocations.

Internal affairs helps process many of the internal operations of ISG - the committee not only accepts resolutions, including Register amendments, but also processes applications for a large variety of positions including senate vacancies, ABTS applications, and campus committee applications.The committee is also responsible for conducting government oversight, which includes compelling the testimony of any member of the Senate or Executive branch, compelling the production of any documents from the Executive or Senate, and inviting any member of the public or the Judiciary to provide testimony to the committee.

The Committee on Public Relations oversees the general outreach of Illinois Student Government through marketing, awareness, and recruitment efforts. Our primary role as a committee is to connect the Illinois Student Government with the student body, and we do this creatively through social media initiatives and by planning fun, large-scale events!

The Committee on Environmental Sustainability deals with issues related to environmental sustainability, conservation, climate change, and the present and future environmental problems of our planet. The committee works on solutions to climate change, methods to switch to renewable and sustainable energy resources/systems, and ways to preserve our environment.

The Department on Student Wellness is not a new initiative within ISG. We have always worked to improve the well-being of our students, but we need a more coordinated effort in this regard. This department's overall goal is to coordinate the efforts of ISG and other advocacy groups to improve the mental, physical, and emotional health of our students. While mental health is a big part of what we are doing, we are also working towards solutions to other issues such as suicide, eating habits, and career goals.
Helping Others Personal Excellence (HOPE)
- Chair: Arnoldo Ayala
- Time: Wednesday at 6:00pm; Student Government Suite.
The purpose of the HOPE department is to ensure that the HOPE (Helping Others Personal Excellence) Scholarship is administered and dealt with in an efficient manner. It is the duty of the HOPE department to make sure that the scholarship goes into fruition and is available to all students who qualify by working with University administration and other entities on campus. The purpose of the HOPE scholarship and HOPE department is to help undocumented students feel safe and welcome on campus.

Constitution and Bylaws
The Illinois Student Government works under a number of governing documents. The Student Government Constitution was ratified by the student body in 2016, and outlines the fundamental structure and responsibilities of the Illinois Student Government.
Under the Constitution, the Illinois Student Government has also adopted a Register detailing our membership, operation, and function. The General Assembly By-Laws, contained within the Register, describe the operation of the body.

Since 2019, the Illinois Student Government has been publishing periodic newsletters which provide students, faculty, and the general public information about activities and programs related to ISG.
