When I walk across the graduation stage in May with all of my closest friends and classmates, my highest honor will not be getting a diploma – it has been and always will be serving as your Student Body President. Though it’s tough to beat the joy of finishing college, talking with students, running Illinois Student Government meetings, and working with University leadership mark the happiest moments of my college career. Yet, as we share a moment together to celebrate our graduation, who should be there to celebrate with us?
I am joining other leaders on campus in an effort to bring Barack Obama to #ILLINOIS to be our 2017 commencement speaker. Join the cause by visiting Invite Obama to Illinois 2017 Commencement . There, you can sign a petition ( http://tinyurl.com/j7ew7ua), Tweet at President Obama using #ILLINOISInvitesObama, or write your very own letter.
If there is anyone in America who embodies what the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign stands for, it’s Obama. A man who built his own career, fought for all of us, and a champion of the great things our generation cares about. He should be the one sharing his story with us, and helping mark the end of our time at Illinois and the beginning of our careers and futures. Help bring Obama back to Illinois. #ILLINOISInvitesObama
